Demonstration

Finding the density of air. Using a crop sprayer, pump it up to increase the pressure; use a balance to find the mass of the crop sprayer. Release the compressed air in the crop spryer through a beehive into a water filled measuring cylinder. Measure the new mass of the crop sprayer.

Resources

density of air

Analysis

Use p=m/V to find the density.

Equipment

1x crop sprayer, 1x beehive, 1x pipes, 1x large measuring cylinder, 1x large water basin & scales

Safety

pressurised container, do not over pressurise.

Demonstration

Finding the density of air. A reinforces spherical glass flask is used, it's mass found. Evacuate on a set of scales to find the evacuated mass. Let water into the evacuated flask.

Resources

density of air

Analysis

Find the mass by taking the difference in mass when it is open to the atmosphere and when it has been evacuated. When water is let in and the p;ressures have equalised, pour the water into measuring cylinders to find the volume of the air displaced. Use p=m/V to find the desity.

Equipment

1x spherical glass flask, 1x vacuum pump, 1x large basin of water, 1x large measuring cylinder, 1x scales

Safety

Evacuated glass container - perform behind safety screen. Check for cracks in vessel before starting. Everyone in the room to wear goggles.
