The heat transfers circus is a collection of small experiments that demonstrate the transfer of thermal energy. Most of the experiments are unsuitable for pupils and are teacher demonstration only.

Experiments

Conduction

  • Bars of different metals with thermochromic strips
  • Bars of different metals with wax holding marbles

Convection

  • Mine ventilation model
  • Glass loop tubes with potassium permanganate (don't tell Maggie I called it that) and gold foil. Gold foil tube will operate with heat from a pupil's hand.
  • Angel chimes

Radiation

  • Radiant heater viewed through desk camera picks up infrared before coils glow to naked eye.

  • Crooke's radiometer
