2.2 recall the hazards of electricity including frayed cables, long cables, damaged plugs, water around sockets, and pushing metal objects into sockets
2.3 describe the uses of insulation, double insulation, earthing, fuses and circuit breakers in a range of domestic appliances
Starter
Show some incorrectly wired plugs and ask pupils to spot the problems
Main Body of Lesson
- Pupils need a good understanding of how Earthing works in conjuction with fuses. Also how we go about picking fuses and what double insulation actually means. If you didn't have time for "Sparky" last lesson, this is an ideal oppourtunity to look at him.
- If you group worked quickly through the previoius double then you could look at how Circuit breakers (magnetic or thermal) work or even how
RCDs work.
