2.3 describe the uses of insulation, double insulation, earthing, fuses and circuit breakers in a range of domestic appliances

Starter

Show some incorrectly wired plugs and ask pupils to spot the problems

Main Body of Lesson

  • Pupils need a good understanding of how Earthing works in conjuction with fuses. Also how we go about picking fuses and what double insulation actually means. If you didn't have time for "Sparky" last lesson, this is an ideal oppourtunity to look at him.
  • If you group worked quickly through the previoius double then you could look at how Circuit breakers (magnetic or thermal) work or even how

RCDs work.
