Demonstration 1

In this section it is wise to demonstrate the traditional waves on:

  • a Slinky
  • a rope
  • a ripple tank

Resources

There is this great web site that can be used for the whole of PH2.1 from the University of Southhampton

Analysis

With the slinky, it is quite nick to get the pupils to draw (using chalk) on the floor or table (wherever the demo is being done) a wave length, amplitude to create 1, 2, 3, ... cycles per second and link period with frequency. The ripple tank should be done using a cork to demonstrate the motion of the waves.
