Class Experiment 1

An experiment is proposed to find the emf and internal resistance of a solar cell. Different known resistors are used in series with the solar cell. The current and terminal p.d. are measured for the range of resistors.

Analysis

A graph of p.d. against current is plotted, from which the values of emf and r are found. This leads to the equation emf = I(R+r). An extension is to find the internal resistance from plotting the external power against the load.
