Class Experiment

The motion sensor (ultrasound emitter and receiver) is used, aimed at a pupil carrying a small flat board. The aim of the experiment is to use given s-t, v-t and a-t graphs to predict the form of other graphs and then to test them out on the apparatus.

Resources

Here is a sheet with many s-t, v-t & a-t graphs which can be used to make predictions

Analysis

(o)

Equipment

1x motion sensor 1x hard board square

Safety

Make sure the area for movement is clear of obstructions, especially items that can be tripped over.

Demonstration

Use the PASCO kit with the motion sensor to measure displacement with time of a bouncing ball; have the motion sensor above the ball.

Resources

Analysis

Use the computer to plot s-t graph. The pupils can use their laptops to analyse the data and plot v-t and a-t graphs

Equipment

1x rubber bouncy ball 1x PASCO kit with motion sensor

Safety

pick up the bouncing ball once it has dropped

Demonstration

Use the PASCO kit with the motion sensor to measure displacement with time of a pendulum.
