Outcomes
- Pupils can describe the difference between a series and a parallel circuit
- Pupils can appreciate the advantages and disadvantages of series and parallel circuits
Specification References
- 2.14 know that lamps and LEDs can be used to indicate the presence of current in a circuit
- 2.9 explain why a series or parallel circuit is more appropriate for particular applications including domestic lighting
- 2.10 understaned that the current in a series circuit dpends on the applied voltage and the number and nature of other components
Starter
See how much pupils have remembered from the third year electricity topic with the "how much do you remember about the thrid year electricity" quizet
Main Body of Lesson
The main body of the lesson consists of a modified Vince sheet which we've used for a while and some work with ammeters and voltmeters. This is an ideal time to ensure that they can use ammeters and voltmeters correctly. Ideally they would have simple ammeters and voltmeters rather than multimeters. There is a powerpoint with the relevant circuit diagrams on.
