Contents
Class Experiment 1
Rope, angles and components. Have the pupils pull in different directions, so that the forces are constant and the o-ring is stationary.
Resources
Analysis
The forces and angles are measured on a piece of paper below the o-ring and the forces are resolved mathematically.
Equipment
3x newton meters, 3x thick string & 1x o-ring
Safety
Care must be taken so that there is plenty of space and the pupils are being sensible not to pull one another over, as well as not pulling so hard they damage the equipment.
Class Experiment 2
Rope, angles and components. This time have the forces constant, but the o-ring moving in the direction of one of the pupils.
Resources
Analysis
Forces and angles measured again, resolved and acceleration can be found from F=ma. They should all be thinking about how they have to move in order to keep the forces constant and accelerate at the same time.
Equipment
3x newton meters, 3x thick string & 1x o-ring
Safety
Care must be taken so that there is plenty of space and the pupils are being sensible not to pull one another over, as well as not pulling so hard
